On the Bench, 2012

On the Bench is a series of three site specific
installations commissioned for the Mid Suffolk Paralympic Celebrations via Mid Suffolk District Council and the Arts Council.

On the bench consists of a series of three benches across Needham Lake that have been altered to represent a lesser known Paralympic sport. The installations are
family friendly, interactive, and light hearted but also aim to encourage the public to learn more about Paralympic sports. Amy wanted to explore how sports equipment could be altered, rendering it no longer suitable for its original
use.

The public were invited to engage with the benches; encouraged to sit on the tennis balls and have a “wheel”. Jump into the swimming bench and get your goggles on or sit on the football bench and imagine your hat-trick!

Thank you to all the people who have kindly made donations of footballs and tennis balls from the local community.
